2020: Writing Year in Review & Writing Goals for 2021
Been a while since I've done one of these but it sounded like fun.
I wrote 100,831 words this year. The good majority of those came in November with NaNoWriMo.
This year I wrote:
Original fic- 55,701
Non-fic long posts for a hockey page I run on Facebook- 2,089
Fanfic posts on LJ/DW/Ao3 - 43,041
7 original works
3 non-fic long posts
100 fanfic works
Of the 100 fanfic works:
-14 different fandoms were represented. OZ took the highest number of fics with 42.
-24 pieces were over 500 words, 76 were 500 words or less
-42 pieces had general content, 29 had slash, 17 had het (mixed 3-somes were both slash & het) and 14 were femslash
Month-wise:
November (with NaNo) had the highest number of words
For fanfic works, I wrote over 10k in December
The most different pieces were produced in February.
Fic that surprised me in the amount of feedback received: The End featuring Shirley Bellinger for the prompt "gravity". Since it was done for this year's halfamoon fest, I'm not sure how many of the likes I've gotten for it are from actual OZ fans. It's a nice solid little piece of fic though.
No new fandoms were added this year.
(The complete list of fanfics will be posted January 31 so that I can include what I wrote for Oz Magi)
Writing resolutions for 2021:
More general check-ins and random observations through my LJ.
Working on all the
hardtime100 prompts that I missed (I wrote the prompts, I really should be able to write on them).
More consistency with when I write. February always gets a bump due to halfamoon and November due to NaNo, but I'd like to be able to post or make substantial progress on something every day. I'm giving myself a goal of 125,000 for the year so discounting NaNo, that's basically 6250 words a month.
I'd like to find a shiny new fandom- I'm going to be checking out "Clarice" and "Resident Alien" (not having streaming access limits my viewing) so we'll see how those go. I may actually delve into the DVDs of "The Wire" that I haven't watched yet and see if I can get something going there.
I also would like to write more long-ish fic. Drabbles are wonderful, but occasionally I like to delve into something bigger.
That's all I can think of for the moment. Thanks for reading.

Good luck with your resolutions for this year, too. I've been wanting to get into The Wire as well, but man, I have so many things already lined up. *sigh*
You're going to have a great writing year!

I asked and received the first 3 seasons of "The Wire" for my birthday one year. I still haven't finished the first season. (And I've rewatched all 6 seasons of OZ since then.)
Got my fingers crossed for it. I know you will have a great writing year as well!

It's one of those shows I've been hearing about forever and always forget about. Oops. Haha - you sound like me and Common Law. I've rewatched the one season USA gave us of it more times than is probably healthy.
You've got this! And me, too. We can do it! :D
