This and that
Sep. 30th, 2008 10:21 pmBetter game tonight. Really. After last night, how could it not be. We had what was basically "the team" out there. They played pretty good - had 35 shots, hit everything that moved, a good all-around effort. I'm a little disappointed they lost, but they carried it through to overtime, and I can remind myself that these games don't count. Havlat and Byfuglien were on the ice and Crawford was in the net. After last night (7 goals from 22 shots), I wouldn't have started Huet either.
Talked to one of my former co-workers. I shouldn't dwell on this, but he mentioned that Wifey had been getting my "reference" calls. I don't know if she just picked up the phone at those times, or if she was just trying to help the Boss out. So I'm not going to be paranoid that she's giving realistic, but unpleasant reports to my (hopefully) future employers. At least I know that the jobs I'm applying to are somewhat interested. That should say something, right?
I signed up for another ficathon thing this past week. It's BtVS - Willow-centric. I'd really like to get my first choice of prompts, since it involves one of my favorite episodes - "The Killer in Me", but it'll be a fun challenge any way it shakes out. I just put the final touches on my second G/X piece (which is actually going to be the one I post on the 2nd). I also managed to put together a very last minute River/Jayne post for "Firefly".
Don't know if anyone has noticed, but during my work hiatus, I've put together a fairly comprehensive fic list of everything I've posted on LJ. It's in with the links.

Oh, hockey. I suppose I should just pick a team and follow it, just to get a better grasp on the sport. I know I like live games! There must be a stadium right around here... Stadium? Arena? Rink? LOL.

Date: 2008-10-17 01:15 pm (UTC)Okay, I picked out three teams for intensely ridiculous reasons. I watch SportscentRE with Mr Star pretty much every morning now, so... I'm learning :)
Even though I live about fifteen minutes from Toronto, the Leafs fans remind me too much of Philadelphia fans so I steered clear of them.

Date: 2008-10-20 02:33 pm (UTC)Anywho, I picked three Canadian teams, because I figure since I'm here, I may as well go full bore. So firstly, the Ottawa Senators, based on how much I like Alex Auld's helmet. Also I like that they have red/white unis and yet a hot yellow goalie helmet, meaning they obviously think outside the box and aren't afraid to try new things. I'm close enough to Ottawa and presumably this will stir up rousing debates with all the Torontonians in my area. Heh. Then, I chose Calgary Flames, for a team Out West and also Nathan Fillion is from Calgary. And then one team in the AHL - the Manitoba Moose. Mr Star's from Wpg, and the past two Christmases we've gone to see the Moose play, and it was all very enjoyable (including the "fights") so mostly for sentimental reasons, although I like moose, too.
Obviously all of my reasons are logical and make perfect sense.
In perspective, I've always liked the Green Bay Packers because when I was younger, my parents used to call them the GB Pickles.

Date: 2008-10-21 04:33 pm (UTC)The only non-NHL team I've seen is the Milwaukee Admirals (and whoever they were playing - I don't remember). I think that teams in the other leagues are a little freer and their fans are far more rowdy than on the NHL level.
