So the job thing might be ending (how many times have I said that since I started there?). They are talking about disbanding the program completely which might take a month or two if they do it. I don't know. All I know is that I'm going to be running around like a chicken with my head cut off the next few days.

Hockey is going very well. Went to the Blues season opener & saw my boy Tarasenko score 2 goals. And the Hawks are currently 4-0 so that's beyond good.

Things with the ex are still going but we've come to the conclusion that it's probably not going to develop into anything other than friendship at this point.

And lastly, my New Year's resolution came true... I got my car.

(Couldn't get the photos thing to work here, but I posted a pic on LJ if you want to see it)

What? Did you think this wasn't going to be a hockey post? )

Q. What time is it in Boston?
A. Fifteen past Luongo

My brother texted me that joke this morning. I'm thrilled that Boston won - mainly because it means that my beloved Blackhawks remained the reigning Stanley Cup Champions for a couple more days.

I'm pulling for the Bruins, but I'd be happy for Lu if he won it (although the other 20-odd guys and their coach have done nothing to endear themselves to me.) I also find it funny that the Boston organist played "Chelsea Dagger" (Blackhawks goal song) last night at some point during the second period.

Hockey will be over tomorrow. I suppose I should be sadder than I am, but this post-season with the exceptions of Vancouver-Chicago & Nashville-Anaheim seems like just games that have less relevance for me than the pre-season.

But there's game seven and the draft and the free-agent acquisition period and the schedule release celebration day so there's lots to look forward to before September 15.

Three long months from now.

It's our semi-annual family gathering (the other is the Sunday before Thanksgiving) for mom's side of the family. It's ridiculously hot outside today - first day in ages, I should be grateful, but I really am not thrilled about spending hours in the 90 degree heat. Hopefully, there will be a few more cousins there this year - last year was really disappointing with the underrepresentation. To put it in perspective, my mom has 9 brothers and sisters who are local, 8 of whom have kids (and most of the kids now have kids as well) so the place where we're going can be literally overrun if everyone shows up. Last year though, there were only about 8 of us cousins (I'm the oldest of the bunch), so it was a little underwhelming.

The cooler is packed, the niece is dressed and we're just waiting for the folks to get back from church so we can go.

In other news, I'm going to Chicago in three weeks. My sister and nephew are coming along too, which should be all right. It's been since President's Day that I've been there so it's a wonder that I haven't gone completely mental by this point.

Glad Boston is in the Cup finals, although I think they are bound to break my heart (but I also said that about a certain team last year, and look how that turned out!)

This was also posted at DW, but I haven't set up for crossposting yet.

Can next season start now? Please.

Apparently, miracles can still occur in politics - they passed the bill that had me potentially unemployed at the end of June, but they did it while striking the amendment that would have cut our funding - they still have to figure out where the money goes, but I'm a little more optimistic today than at this point last week.

I have managed to respond to all the visible comments on Graffixation, still need to comment on one more story and piece of artwork in the batch, but for the moment I am done - of course, as soon as any other comments are unscreened, I'll respond to anything else that's out there. It's been a wonderful experience and thank you again to everyone who took part.

Work has been rather horrid this past week. With the potential shutdown, people have been hyper-vigilant about tracking files and getting things through the system, but with four admin staff people, who do they keep coming for all their nonsense? Yours truly. I took a mental health day today to de-stress.

hockey stuff behind the cut )
Did some gardening the other day. I planted two tomato plants and two pepper plants so hopefully they'll produce some delicious results later this summer.

I also discovered a lovely coffee shop in the neighborhood - not a Starbucks, but one of those great little independent places that were kicking around all over the place in the 90s. I will definitely be going back, especially since they have the equivalent of a free book exchange in their back room, so between donating and acquiring, it'll be a good thing.

Well...

... that lasted longer than I thought. Still is kinda crappy to go out, but that's the way it goes some years.

The pure hockey fan part of me did turn the TV on (dad had turned it off immediately, I was getting the delayed reaction on the radio and reading the live chat on yahoo) just to watch the handshake line (way too much Burrows coverage there, imo) so I could see Roberto Luongo smile. I'm happy for him.

And now that it's done, they (Vancouver) never have to win another game. Ever.

Lucky for me the West conveniently has two Central division teams playing in seperate series.

So, go Preds. And, go Wings. And whoever is lucky enough to come out of the 4-5 round in the East.

Down to 3 teams and there's 3 rounds to go. Sick.

ETA: If Tampa Bay wins, it'll be four teams (and my prediction for the Finals will still be alive).
cmk418: (ryan-lovin-it)
Let me just say, how unbelievably thrilled I am that Nashville has finally advanced to Round 2. Best game of that series was game 5, not only for Nashville basically doing the reverse of round 1, game 5 from last year, but also for the phenomenal goal by Anaheim's Bobby Ryan.

There is also that elephant that I imagined would be long gone from the room, but has managed to hang out and be my date for Tuesday night.

I will say that I love Ben Smith, even though he's making me invest in Tums. That is all.
cmk418: (alvarez sanity)
Here's who I'm rooting for in the first round

EAST
(1) Washington Capitals v. (8) New York Rangers - Neither. We'll probably get fed these two a lot, so hopefully it'll be a good series
(2) Philadelphia Flyers v. (7) Buffalo Sabres - Buffalo. No contest.
(3) Boston Bruins v. (6) Montreal Canadiens - This is going to be an unbelievable series, but I will always pull for Boston until they break my heart.
(4) Pittsburgh Penguins v. (5) Tampa Bay Lightning - I am predicting a Tampa Bay v. Detroit final. And I have a soft spot for both Eric Brewer & Stevie Y, so Tampa Bay.

WEST
(4) Anaheim Ducks v. (5) Nashville Predators - This is probably the most difficult choice, but the Ducks are closer to a Norris Division team than Nashville (they are like Blues West), so I'm going to root for Anaheim, but I hope it goes 7 games regardless.
(3) Detroit Red Wings v. (6) Phoenix Coyotes - Phoenix is one of my two "most-likeable" teams in the NHL (along with Columbus) - there's nobody on that squad that annoys me. I'll root for Phoenix, but I definitely won't be surprised when Detroit takes them.
(2) San Jose Sharks v. (7) Los Angeles Kings - Yeah, I'm going to root for the team from the city where I lived for 7 years. And I cannot stand the Sharks, they are Phoenix's polar opposite.
(1) Vancouver Canucks v. (8) Chicago Blackhawks - Hi. I'm Cat. Have you read my LJ? Much as I'd love to maximize the time with my beloved team, I'd love to see Vancouver out in four straight.

So, that's it. Playoffs start Wednesday.

Cut for R-rated nature of language in the following rant )
ETA: Stunned by the current turn of events, but still not overly hopeful. If any Dallas fans want to add their own rants in comments, feel free.
cmk418: (Justified-Art)
Been a while since I really posted something over here and I didn't want people to start thinking that I'd fallen in, so here I am.

The job is coming to a swift conclusion. We've got less than 9 months and then we're out of there, unless it happens sooner and considering they laid off 9 temps last week, I probably should start updating the ol' resume.

Considered doing Script Frenzy this year, but talked myself out of it again.

I have been writing. I did a strange little River/Serenity drabble for the porn battle over at [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today. If anyone feels inclined to read it, it's here. Yes, I'm pairing people with spaceships now, it has gone that far.

I'm jonesing for some McManus/Murphy fic, either to write or to read.

Hockey - honestly, I just don't know. It's been a weird season. My beloved Blackhawks getting into the postseason is still hovering somewhere between "if" and "we could wind up in first in the Central if we take the 3 against Detroit" (stop laughing, [livejournal.com profile] suespur). The Blues are out of it which is really quite disappointing considering how they started. I'm not freaking out too much about the sale of the team, since it's pretty much a cyclical thing here - I've been through at least 4 of the Blues' ownership changes, so I have faith they'll find somebody to keep them here.

Allergy season is kicking my ass right now. It's Mucinex every 4 hours, which is just as awful as it sounds. Why can't anyone make decent tasting couch medicine? Seriously.

That's it for the moment.
cmk418: (charlie prince)
I find myself with many, many different ideas of things that I would love to see the OZ fandom take on. Comment fic-athon featuring minor characters, something exclusively about the staff, something AU based (my mind is more centered on pre- and post-series stuff rather than Keller and Beecher fighting dragons). I don't know if any of these would get a response.

Non-fandom related work stuff )

Been trying to get organized with tracking my what I write. I managed to get all the fics that I was missing from last year onto my list, so that's good.

I'm really loving Magi this year. The diversity is great. I've enjoyed the three McManus fics that I've read, the artwork and one vid that I've looked at, Miguel Alvarez and Ryan O'Reily who are all over the place, and I really love the Schibetta fic that was written for me (it's definitely a different look at Peter than I've seen before, but not out of character.)

"Justified" should be "on demand" fairly soon. I'm looking forward to rewatching Season 1 - either there or on DVD and then jumping into Season 2.

As for my beloved Blackhawks, well... at least they won tonight.
cmk418: (hockey)
Dear beloved hockey team,

Heard you were coming to St. Louis tonight. Went to Scottrade, but it seems that none of you actually showed up.

Let's not have this happen again.
-me

Side note to M. Turco - I didn't mean you, of course. You'd have a solid case for non-support if you ever want to sue.

If there was an upside, I should mention that the Blues did play pretty well.
cmk418: (Vicennes)
In a little over 11 hours, I will be headed to Chicago for a couple days of R&R. I really don't know why I don't do this more often, because after four months of being around my family, I need a break.

NaNo is going all right. I haven't written today, but I'm up to 17K words so far.

I have a thing for ritual and the annual selecting of [livejournal.com profile] oz_magi prompts is one of them. Sit there with the list and an ink pen drawing little arrows to the prompts that I like and think I can write. It's fun being able to take part every year although by December 15 (mark your calendars, folks), I will probably be going through the annual ritual of "What the heck am I going to write for Magi?"

Work is a little bit iffy right now, and I'm glad to be leaving it for a couple of days. They are going to be combining two departments in one space - not sure when it's going to happen and they really haven't where we admin temps are going to fit into the whole scheme of things. Although one flow chart did seem to list the title of Customer Service Support Manager for essentially what I have been doing for the past year. No word yet on if I'll be collecting a manager's salary soon, but it's highly unlikely.

The Blues (local hockey team) are playing extremely well, as are the L.A. Kings. Not so much my beloved Blackhawks, but there's still a lot of season left. (Although if they don't win when I'm at the game on Wednesday, I'll be supremely peeved.

Is it just me or do the refs seemed a bit biased?

This hockey game is depressing the heck out of me. Maybe the 3rd will be better...
