Sunshine Revival Challenge #4
Jul. 15th, 2025 09:03 pm
A little late to these challenges but I liked the Journaling aspect of this one.
Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.
1) The bookstore within walking distance of my house - I've been on a real reading kick lately, alternating between Martha Wells' Murderbot series and a bunch of Sapphic romance novels
2) The OZ discord community (HBO, not Wizard of) - It's been fun and I'm enjoying the evening writing session even if they're past my bedtime
3) Allergy shots - I can go outside when I want to. It's been hot as heck here lately, so I'm staying in more than out, but I'm just glad I now have the option and am not coughing and sneezing my brains out when I get back
4) Increased staff at my job. I coordinate appointments so it's nice to have more people so we can do more in the course of the day and I can give them a bit of a break too.
5) The current sermon series at my Church- Every July for the past decade, we've done something called "The Faith We Sing" which features different songs- we've done hymns, musicals, folk, music from the 60s, country, Disney, and queer anthems. This year we're doing iconic songs and started out this past week singing "Holding Out for a Hero", followed by the "Who Are The People In Your Neighborhood?" song from Sesame Street. It can be odd, but it's still a lot of fun.
6) That One Hundred Hours of Writing (OHHOW) is starting up sometime on Thursday. I'm glad it's still going on despite the disappearance of NaNoWriMo. If you've never participated, it's a livestream on Twitch of people all over the world running word sprints. It's a great way to get some words in.
7) NHL Schedule Release Day is tomorrow! Did you really think you were getting by without me posting about hockey?
8) Christmas in July - Yes, please. That's the music that plays in my car from July 1 to July 31.
9) My five favorite people - My niece and nephews have been around for most of the summer. My niece just left for med school and one of my nephews will be going to his dad's house soon, but it's been nice having them around
10) That there are a few movies out that I want to go see, starting with "The Naked Gun" remake. It's probably going to be dumb, but sometimes that's not a bad thing.
That's all I've got for now. Thanks for reading and let me know what's bringing you joy this month.

Our TV is permanently on Hallmark during July because both of my girls love their Christmas movies. So did their dad, but he was an oddball.
What's bringing me joy right now is that I was gifted a Ninja Creami for my birthday and there have been milkshakes more often than necessary this past week. LOL Also, got an email from the VGK saying the Knights were starting their ninth 'residency'. Gotta love Vegas.

Date: 2025-07-20 03:37 am (UTC)The only thing I'm bummed about with the sermon series this year is that choir isn't back to participate, so it's nice, but I'm looking forward to big group sings again- we're starting back in September, maybe. My favorite one that we did was one of the musicals series- we did like a miniature version of "Les Miz", "Wicked" and "Phantom of the Opera". It was so much fun.
I have never really gotten into the Hallmark Christmas movies. It does seem like the thing my dad would love, but he's a bit of an oddball too when it comes to movies.
I've not heard of the Ninja Creami, but it sounds like a fun kitchen gadget (and probably less hassle than a blender). I do love a good milkshake. It's seems like the Knights just got here and they're heading into year 9. Time flies. One of these years I'm going to get to a game out there.

It's hilarious when the dads are the ones watching the girly movies. :D
So far, it has been a lot of fun. Have some fruit in the freezer right now that's going to become sorbet tonight.
Seriously! It feels like it was just yesterday and yet, they feel like they've always been here, too. Oooh, I hope you do sometime! We're a cheesy bunch, but we embrace it. I mean, when in Vegas...
