Welcome to my journal. I don't update often except in the early part of the year (by June you'll be lucky to see a post). Most of it isn't friends-locked so feel free to take a look around.

I'm here and can be found on LJ, Ao3, & Twitter by the same handle. I'm on LJ & DW about the same amount now, but some things are only updated in one place. Twitter rarely gets updated and it's usually just me responding to someone else's Tweets. There's a fic list accessible through the sidebar, but it's not entirely up to date, so just search through tags or come see me on Ao3.

Fandoms I'm currently writing for:
All for the Game (Nora Sakavic), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (occasionally some Angel might find it's way in), Desert Hearts, Firefly, Game of Thrones, Gotham, Hockey RPF, Indiana Jones series (specifically Raiders of the Lost Ark), Justified, L.A. Confidential, Life, OZ, Prodigal Son, Queer as Folk (UK), Resident Alien, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Big Bang Theory, The Departed, The Fast and the Furious series, The Godfather, and Top Gun: Maverick

I'm hoping to start writing for Star Trek: Enterprise at some point in 2025.

Transformative works statement is here.

I friend easily so if you like what you see here, feel free to add me to your circle.

Thanks for stopping by!

Update

A category-3 tornado ripped through my city last Friday. Fortunately, our apartment wasn't in the path of it. I went out to the north side of the city yesterday to drop off some donations and the devastation was incredible. I got lost on the way to the donation site and was driving around a park in the area and it was just tree after tree that had been uprooted in the storm. The other amazing thing was all of the people who came out to help- there were people on street corners handing out meals and water and the line of cars heading to drop off items at the donation site was quite long. There were already roofers up at the community center making repairs. It was great to see so many people working to make things a little easier. They were asking for donations of tarps today as it is raining here tonight with the possibility of another tornado as well.

In all my years in the Midwest, I have been around my share of tornado warnings, but I can't remember a storm like this in my lifetime. It was a beautiful day until around 2pm, then it started to get dark and grey and the wind picked up. It blew the power out at my office and the wind would rattle the doors and windows. The building the office is in is like a storefront and the front wall is mostly big windows, so not ideal to be sitting there when the wind picks up like that. There were no sirens, the cell phone warning never went off, and even the radio didn't have a tornado alert. That's how fast it happened, and it was over just as quickly.

Everything else is going okay. I haven't written much of anything. I've been reading a lot. I'm now working on "The Ministry of Time" by Kaliane Bradley. It's not too bad. I'm a little miffed that there only seems to be one team worth cheering for left in the NHL playoffs. My favorite team, the Ottawa Charge, has made the PWHL finals and I'm thrilled about that. It'll be nice to watch that for the next week.

That's all I've got for now. Hope you all are doing well.

Challenge #12 Create a Rec Countdown.

5 movies I recommend:
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Brown Sugar
Jaws
Mulan (either version)
Monty Python & the Holy Grail

4 Dreamwidth communities that I'd recommend:
[community profile] allbingo - runs bingo challenges each month
[community profile] halfamoon - focuses on women characters in fandom, runs February 1-14 (please feel free to join)
[community profile] hardtime100 - drabble & fic writing community for the HBO OZ fandom
[community profile] sweetandshort - offers different challenges for icons or works of 500 words or less

3 of my fics that I'd recommend
Another Time, Another Life - L.A. Confidential - I turn the subtext at the end into text
Five Times Giles and Anya Could Have Met - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Giles knew Anya long before Sunnydale
One Tear - The Departed - experimental poetry told in second person about Costigan & Dignam's relationship (BDSM so not for everyone)

2 museums in the U.S. where I could spend a day
National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio - planes, missiles, and space craft spread out in five different hangars, you may need more than a day to get through all of it
National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee - The museum recommends planning at least 90 minutes to enjoy it. That is nowhere near enough time if you are someone like me who follows all the links and listens to the songs. Very interactive and educational experience.

1 Website to Check Out
Astronomy Picture of the Day - If you want to cultivate your fascination with space, this is a great place to look. The pictures are interesting and there's always a short explanation by a professional astronomer.

Happy 2025!

Been a minute. So, since this is unofficially the opening post for the new year, it's time to see how I did with last year's goals and see what's new (or old) for this year.

Challenge #2

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story.

Sometime in the early 2000s, I discovered the television "Oz". I didn't have HBO at the time and had to rely on Netflix to send me DVDs. It took a couple of episodes, but when it took hold, it really took hold. I binge watched before binge watching was cool. I read all of the recaps on the late great Television Without Pity and discovered that Oz had a forum where fans would chat. I lurked on the chat boards, rolled my eyes at people's devotion to the episode "Cuts Like a Knife" (which is a good episode, but not the best IMO), and through the forums discovered [personal profile] oz_magi. It was an annual exchange that took place around Christmas and had dozens of fics, mostly centered on Beecher & Keller, but there were a few that were of non-canon pairings. I can remember being fascinated by fics that paired up Tim McManus & Sean Murphy, best friends on the show but not gay in any way. It was one of those things that made me wonder "can they do that?" and then say to myself "I don't know, but it works and I like it.)

So then I started imagining what other non-canon pairings would be interesting to read about. For some reason, I had a fixation on Ryan O'Reily & Jia Kenmin and I told myself that if I was given the opportunity that I would request that pairing through Oz Magi that year. I joined Livejournal in July 2006 and having several months before Magi decided to try my hand at writing and making some friends who also were as fanatical about Oz as I was. I wrote my first drabble for [community profile] hardtime100 (full disclosure, I'm now the mod, so you can see how that worked out) about Jia Kenmin and got a grand total of one comment. But that was enough and I was back for the challenge every week after that. I made a lot of friends in the community and that led to other fandoms and challenges.

It's been almost two decades, but it all started with a little forum on a now-defunct website.

Found this on [personal profile] cornerofmadness's page and thought it'd be fun. Full disclosure- I'm not fully updated on Ao3 yet, but this is just based on what's in there now.

1. What rating do you write most fics under?
Teen and Up Audiences (329)
General Audiences (208)
Mature (82)

To say I have a hard time writing explicit scenes is putting it mildly.

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?
OZ (182)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV) (121)
Game of Thrones (TV) (69)

It's really only the tip of the iceberg with OZ because I've got 169 drabbles in one post

3. What is your top (3) character(s) you write about?
Tim McManus (44)
Sean Murphy (39)
Buffy Summers (18)

4. What are the 3 top pairings?
Tim McManus/Sean Murphy (25)
Vivian Bell/Cay Rivvers (20)
River Tam/Zoe Washburne (16)

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?
Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (14)
Christmas (9)
Pre-Canon (7 - TIE)
BDSM (7 - TIE)

6. Did any of this surprise you? e.g. what turned out to be your top tag.

River/Zoe was the most surprising and proof that I haven't updated Ao3 fully since I once wrote Giles/Xander fics every day of October 2008 (it was G/X month and I was unemployed.) There are those and also works for open_on_sunday and more than likely various Oz drabble trees that I haven't added as of yet.

It also shows that I tend to undertag (as in having the relationship tag, but not tagging individual characters when I've tagged them for relationships). That said, having AU-Canon Divergence as my top Additional tag didn't surprise me because I like to warn if the fic isn't what people expect from the fandom.

Also, I really need to write more "Sean Murphy is a closet dom" fic and bump that tag up.

7. Readers of this post, did any of this surprise you?
