Happy 2021!

I'm currently surrounded by boxes as I'm in the midst of my annual room clean & purge. I've got a bag of clothes, a box of miscellaneous stuff and a couple of boxes of books and DVDs that I'm going to be donating. It's a little after 10 now so I doubt I'm going to finish tonight- still have the filing cabinet and a couple other shelving units to go.
I wrote over 100,000 words last year (post on what I wrote to come at the end of the month). NaNo was a big part of it, but that's still about 48K from other sources (and I never count journaling which I've fallen away from). I think I'll shoot for 125,000 this year. Rearranging my routine to give me a little extra writing time in the morning should help. I'm just going to have to look at some of the dozens of prompts that I have around from last year and start plugging away.
I read like a fiend this past year as well. I haven't done a count but I did go through a stint where I was reading a hockey romance every day or two (one of the series has 20 books total in it and I read them all, usually I'm lucky to read 20 books in a year). Part of the reason for that is my job and that everything settled down for me work-wise as soon as I changed jobs in January.
I started to work on what's going to be one of my goals for this year and that's to transfer my fanworks over to Ao3. I'm not abandoning LJ, but I just think it will be nice to have another place for my work to be displayed. It's slow-going, but will ultimately be worthwhile. (If nothing else, it's a nice ego boost to get love for things that I haven't looked at in a while.)
Hockey starts in 12 days and I am looking forward to it. Not sure how I feel about the whole Blues-in-the-West thing, but I can deal with it for a year and I'm sure those antagonistic feelings I have toward Chicago may settle in just fine somewhere else for the next 7 months (you're on notice, Vegas).
That's all I've got for the moment. I'd like to say that I'll update about my personal life more regularly, but it always seems to start out ok and then I'll go from March to August without anything. So, we'll see.
Here's to a terrific 2021!

Date: 2021-01-02 02:43 pm (UTC)Nice work! I had a decent year as well, word-wise, although I fell about 4k short of the goal I set for myself. But with the way this past year was, I still call it a big win.
That's awesome! I'm laughing at the hockey romances though since I know I instigated a couple. Great that your job settled down for you though, that's always a huge relief.
AO3 is great when it comes to delivering love for something you forgot you even wrote. :D I need to start adding my other works to Wattpad. I have some of my White Pine up there, but I have a hard time finding places to put my original stuff. Good luck getting all of yours transferred though. It's a long process.
Yay! Hockey! LMAO... what have we done now? :D
I'll be here if and when you do update. And if not? As long as you're enjoying yourself. :)

Date: 2021-01-02 09:43 pm (UTC)You had well over 200K, that's awesome!
Yes, you led me down the rabbit hole of fictional hockey romance and, wow, was that something. There are layers on layers of them. I recommended one of the books I read recently to my sister (not quite so sex-heavy as the first one I read) so she's probably going to have a nice time of it before long.
I've never heard of Wattpad. Is that strictly for original work?
Oh, Vegas, you know what you did. LOL.
Thanks. I'll try to be better with the responding too.

Date: 2021-01-02 10:41 pm (UTC)Thank you! My goal was 250k, so I was just a touch short, but I'm impressed with myself.
Hah, I love when I can share. And too funny about your sister. Wonder if she'll get sucked into the vortex, too?
No, fanfiction is welcome over there, too. I've not had any issues with people being jerks either, so that's always a plus.
*coughs*
It's all good. Life sucks sometimes. ❤
