It can be done. The prompt for this week's
open_on_sunday was "cup", so that's where my mind went - 3 times.
These are AU, post "Not Fade Away", and Lindsey is still alive (because it's my AU). The first could take place at any time, the second could conceivably take place a few weeks ago and the last one is a few years into the future.
Illyria sat entranced as the shining silver object was lifted toward the heavens. “Half-breed, how might we acquire such a chalice?”
“That? Well, you don’t so much acquire it as win it. There’s a tournament and-“
“You’ve bested a dragon, proclaimed yourself a champion. Where is your chalice?”
“Well, that’s a bit different.”
“Look at them. Mere mortals drinking from the cup of the gods.”
“That’s not the-“
“There are others?”
“No. That’s the only one.”
“Then you shall acquire it for me.”
Angel sighed. He suddenly regretted tuning in to watch the last game of the Stanley Cup Finals.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
“How about an apocalypse?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because then you’ll be starting one every time something doesn’t go your way.”
“What about magicking them to another dimension?”
“It’s just a game.”
“No, it’s eighty-two games, fourteen series, and the same two teams in the Cup final as last year.”
“I never should have gotten you addicted to hockey.”
“What about…?”
“No. Look, the only time it was cancelled was due to the influenza outbreak in 1919. They wouldn’t do that today.”
“They called the game because of the flu?”
“Yeah. Only year I ever got tickets for the game. Bummer.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
“Welcome back, Angelus.”
“You knew this was going to happen?”
“Of course, I did. You didn’t expect tickets to the Stanley Cup Finals to magically appear on your doorstep, did you? Well, actually, I guess I could say that magic was involved a little bit. How are you enjoying that moment of perfect happiness?”
“It’s passed. Now, I’m thinking about my next meal,” Angelus’ lips curled into a grin.
Lindsey stepped back and bumped into the man standing to his right. Surrounded by cheering fans, there was no room for escape.
“Maybe you should have magicked yourself an aisle seat.”
