Finally Friday
Jul. 28th, 2006 10:36 pmIt's Friday night. Late. The clock above my desk reads 3:20 but since it's read that for the past week and a half, I don't put much stock in it. Had the youth group thing tonight - and I'm not a young thing anymore - or at least I won't be in another couple of weeks. I woke up this moring with Kristen Rohde's voice in my head. Not the best way to wake up and she was persistent too. Of course there are some other Kristens that I would like to hear from even less. I'm not going to elaborate. But this was strange. It was a monologue about sex and the need to feel feminine from time to time. I sorta get that. It's in my head, I suppose I should. I'm frustrated right now because nobody's posted a comment yet to my little blurb. Is that why Jia has nothing written about him aside from the original Fontana stuff? Why the hate on Jia? Other than the whole Cyril death-row thing, but one could counter, if one didn't have such affection for Ryan O'Reily as I do, that Ryan is more directly responsible for Cyril's predicament than Jia ever was. Enough about the Ozzites for now. It feels like hockey season is getting close. I'm looking forward to it. There's something about the start of a season for any sport that brings with it such hope, and then the puck is dropped or the ball is thrown and it may be all over but the shouting. But for that one day, all teams are equally at the top of the standings with their perfect 0-0-0-0 records (for hockey). I have little doubt that my Chicago Blackhawks will improve upon their performance of last year, and the same could be said for my St. Louis Blues as well. I will probably not know any of those people on either team but I'll listen to the games and enjoy them. Maybe I'll even take some time and hear some of the Kings games as well. There's also football coming along soon. I've got to find some way to see a televised game or two this year. Maybe spend long hours at Best Buy in the TV department (that's how I got to see 5 minutes of the last game of the Stanley Cup Finals this year). I don't think they'll let me do that on Oscar night though. I may have to buckle down and pay for cable again at that point. I don't know if being without it has really broadened my horizons any. I'm not up late watching some stupid comedy that I've seen seven or eight times the past month or some made-for-Lifetime tearjerker. I don't turn to Rachel Ray when I'm bored or spend my late nights watching rerun after rerun of "Will & Grace" or "Friends". Those are things I don't miss. I do miss seeing the Colbert Report and the Daily Show every night. I do miss the idea of the SciFi channel - though the programming was usually not that great. I miss USA and FX. And I really miss televised baseball - my entire summer last year had baseball on as the soundtrack. Now I'm listening to the clicking of the keyboard and what could be cicadas if we were anywhere else, but is probably just the sound of the air conditioner running. Drifting toward sleep....
