Today was just bizarre. Maybe part of it was the fact that I didn't get to sleep until well after 3AM - I posted a HT100 Challenge a little after midnight, then I was going to do my little ritual and fall asleep to "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut" but no, I had to go checking out what was on regular tv. And on PBS they were airing an "American Experience" about Josef Goebbels (what he has to do with the American Experience, I have no idea, but I was captivated) so I watched that until it was over, started flipping channels again, first something honoring James Taylor and then wound up with the "Celtic Woman" program - it's pledge time at PBS, so, they happen to be showing all kinds of good stuff after midnight, apparently. Normally, I really don't like to hear women - not named Lea Salonga - sing, but these gals were astonishing, so that just took up more time. I finally had to turn it off.
Then this morning I have bus pass issues (my own fault, I should have picked up another weekly pass yesterday) so that leads to a bit of last-minute panic, but winds up okay. I get to church, things seem normal, except that I would rather keep my unidirectional mic in front of me rather than sharing with a guy that can be heard unmic'd in Utah. An attempt to establish position ensues with the guy getting all out of proportion and yelling (or perhaps saying, with him it's hard to tell) in front of the whole choir (and since we're mic'd, everybody in the sanctuary at the time) that he's sick of my attitude. Wha? I'd barely said two words to the guy (and the first didn't start with an F and the last wasn't "you") so I have no idea what crawled up his butt this morning. What was nice though is that a few of the other choir guys (including Princess Lite who is starting to grow on me so much that I'm going to have to give him another name) came to my aid and checked up on me when we were done with the pre-service rehearsal which was nice. Even the choir director made sure I was doing okay afterward. I wasn't upset, I was actually kinda pissed, but I couldn't have said anything, because there would have really been an attitude problem there. So that was weirdness one.
Weirdness two involves my choir friend that I have my little flirtations with. It's the middle of the sermon and she leans over to me and says, "Hey, it's December. Are you over it ("it" being all the past she-yut with my ex) yet?" I thought it was kind of sweet that she remembered that I was giving myself through the end of the year before surging on/finding another excuse to avoid commitment. Three more weeks, but I am working on it.
I am sick of rehearsing special music for Friday already. A surefire way to take a song you like and turn it into one you abhor is to agree to perform it somewhere. We went through the doggone thing 6 or 7 times and only one of those was with accompaniment.
Managed to do a little Christmas shopping today. I picked up items for my dad and brother. I'll get my niece something tomorrow - that'll be the most fun. I'd really like to get her two wedding gowns for her Barbies (not that she'd get any ideas from that) or else one of the Disney dolls, either Jasmine or Mulan (for diversity).
I played a little more with the HT100 challenges today. Brace yourselves because there's gonna be a whole lot of McManus heading that way. I'll probably post the most crack-y one tonight.
It seems really cold here right now. Cold in the Southern California definition of cold.
