This is a response to a request by
murielle to write this scene found here. It was originally a response to the
hardtime100 challenge #119 - You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth. McManus/Murphy. Told from Murphy's POV (this time). 149 words. The quote at the beginning is from Jane Austen.
Friendship is surely the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love.
Unless you asked Sean Murphy. He’d tell you the two went hand in hand.
Now he was sitting here on Tim’s couch, nursing another of McManus’ broken hearts, just another part of a pattern that had been firmly established over the years.
Tim was drunkenly blathering on about Diane, bobbies – wasn’t the guy actually a palace guard? – and “fucking London.” Then he had Sean take the customary oath of friendship and loyalty.
Sean nearly choked on his beer when Tim said, “Or anyone named Bobby.” It was the closest Tim had ever come to acknowledging Sean’s homosexuality.
Sean muttered something about Tim being the only man in his life. He knew that Tim wouldn’t remember any of this come morning.
But Sean would remember how Tim smiled and said “Good”.
And then the drunk asshole passed out.
