Well, I figure somebody out there has got to be tired of refreshing their friends page to the same stuff. So this is for you. And for all those valiant striking souls, whenever they come back.
Basically, this is an experiment in silliness - I took two slightly crazy people from two separate fandoms, mixed them together and this is what came up. And either one or both or neither is hallucinating - this is just a tiny ficlet.
Title: Not So Solitary
Characters: River Tam (Firefly)/Miguel Alvarez (Oz)
Rated: PG
River blinked. White ceiling above her, but the smell definitely identified the room as not being the infirmary. She had no idea where she was. Maybe they came for her again, maybe the blue hands succeeded this time.
A hand on her shoulder shook her. “Hey. Little girl.” She started to scream and the hand clamped over her mouth. “Don’t do that. Okay? Okay. I’m not going to hurt you.”
She bit down on his hand, hard.
“Ow! Damn it,” he yelled, pulling his hand away from her and balling it into a fist.
She spun around, landing a kick to his head, knocking him back on the cot. She looked at him then. Just a man, dressed in a blue uniform with the number “97A413”.
Not the Academy then. But a prison, definitely.
His voice filled her head. Going loco, Miguel. Seeing things. Little girls appearing out of thin air like some kind of angel.
She sat on the edge of his cot. It seemed to be the only comfortable place in this cell to sit. She brushed her fingers over his hair, traced the scar on his cheek, and stilled when his eyes opened.
Her breath caught in her throat and then she whispered. “I’m not an angel.”
“How did you get here?”
“I don’t know. We were planetside and I was playing tag with Kaylee and I tripped. And then I was here.”
“Planetside? Now I think you’re the crazy one, chica.”
“You won’t be the first.”
“It’s okay. I’m crazy too. Welcome to solitary.”
“But there are two of us.”
“Yeah, so...”
“Not so solitary then, is it?” she reasoned.
Miguel Alvarez smiled. Despite the initial violence, she was the best company of all of his visions so far. He hoped that this one wouldn’t go away too soon.
Catching the current of his thoughts, River rested her head against his shoulder. It was safe here. Until Simon came for her again, she would stay.

Date: 2021-02-15 04:28 am (UTC)I think I may have read this back in the day, but I didn't remember it, so thank you for directing me here. (I haven't gone through much of your old fic yet despite wanting to, because when I checked most of it was on LJ.)

Date: 2021-02-15 07:52 pm (UTC)Your post actually reminded me that I'd written for them so I was glad to have found this again. And now, I want to take your idea about Miguel somehow stowing away and combine it with this one. (I'm getting the feeling that by the time we're all done playing in the Moments 'verse, Oz will be relocated to somewhere outside the Milky Way.)
Most of my stuff is still on LJ. I'm looking to put it all on Ao3 at some point, but it's slow going and I haven't even started with a lot of the OZ stuff yet.
