Mad Men drabble - Stages of Comparison for fallen_woman

Title: Stages of Comparison
Rating: PG-13
Characters/Pairings: Pete/Trudy, Pete/Peggy
A/N: For fallen_woman's prompt "hard".



“Seven. Can you believe it?” asked Trudy.

“It’s amazing,” said one of her friends, either Elise or Eloise – you could never keep them straight. “You’re one of the lucky ones. Some women just balloon up.”

“I know. Did you see Priscilla Meadows? She makes a hippo look tiny.”

Some days you find it hard to believe that you couldn’t see it. The signs were there, clear as day. At every stage of Trudy’s pregnancy, everything you missed before comes suddenly into focus:

The morning sickness-

“She’s not here,” Joan says. “A touch of food poisoning. I told that girl she shouldn’t eat anything off the lunch cart.”

The mood swings-

“What do you think of the copy for Belle Jolie?”

“I’m not sure about the-“

“Oh, what the hell do you know?”

The weird food cravings-

“What’s that?”

“Bologna and peanut butter. Haven’t had it since I was a kid.”

The sudden upswing in libido-

She pushed you onto the couch, sat on your feet as she unfastened your pants. To say this was unexpected would be an understatement.

Of course, the first time Trudy places your hand on her stomach so that you can feel the baby kick, that’s where the comparisons end.

Oh god...I really hope they explore something like this on the show. It must be so hard for both Pete and Peggy.

Me too. I really liked what the writers did during "The Rejected" and I hope they keep exploring the tension that the past creates between Pete and Peggy.

Wow, you made me like the use of second person. That is amazing in and of itself. And the snap shots you gave me were just as good. <3

I love writing in the second person - it's particularly nice to be able to use it in slash scenes (no pronoun issues!) I think that with Pete processing through everything it lends a bit of distance. I like putting Pete into the same position that the viewer was in at the end of season one - seeing everything that was overlooked with Peggy's pregnancy.

So concise and perfect....damn, the way you describe that (hidden!!) sex scene between Pete and Peggy is so damn perfect...not to mention the mental image of Peggy giving Pete oral is adorable, to the point where I find myself shocked I haven't ever thought of it before.
