I have determined that I could now survive watching the Blues and Blackhawks play in the playoffs, provided every game goes at least three overtimes - the potential of just five extra minutes isn't enough. Seriously, I could have watched that game til midnight and not be disappointed.
Sorry,
Squaredanced tonight for the first time in about three weeks. I needed it.
Went on strike for the last three hours of work today. The company that my temp agency contracts for requires us to clock in and out on regular timecards (I feel like it's 1986 all over again with that nonsense) in addition to us filling out the timesheets for the temp agency. I went in today and I realized that I didn't have my timecard when the boss had the timesheets picked up, so I left him a little note saying that I'd misplaced it, would bring it in tomorrow, and would he please sign my timesheet. He sent me an e-mail which basically asked the question - "how would I know what hours I worked if I didn't have my timecard?" Huh? Seriously. This is the guy heading up the program. And this is how he handles every friggin' thing that goes on. I ignore the e-mail for the bullshit that it is and when I get back my unsigned timecard, I forward his e-mail and my explanation to my temp agency and let them handle it. It should be resolved tomorrow, but give me a break. You're denying me my pay even though I've been here for the entire week? And you can check with anyone who was in the office and my phone records, my computer records, and the security camera tapes to see me in the office? It's absolute bullshit.
Realized today that it's two weeks to NaNo and I don't seem as disciplined as last year.
Mad Men season finale was somewhat of a letdown. It had a lot to live up to with last year's. Is it me or does it seem that most shows peak at Season Three?
The goldfish we'd been keeping for my niece both died. She had a partial meltdown/partial excuse for drama on Sunday. They are currently in the freezer until she comes over on Wednesday.
Ordered Season 1 of the original Bionic Woman for myself. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
And finally, Mad Libs with my eight-year-old niece on Saturday (I'm supplying prompts) -
Part of the body - vagina (I wish I could convey the way she said it because she seemed so proud of herself for that word)
Adjective - gay (huh? this was her word for the weekend which made me mental)
Noun - lesbian (and she rolls the L, my head was seriously in my hands at this point).
I'm just glad we were playing this game in the house and not in the car with one of my parents at the wheel.
Hope everyone on my f-list is doing well. Hugs and love to you all!

Date: 2010-10-20 02:06 am (UTC)These next few years with my niece are going to be fun, especially since a lot of the time, I have the sense of humor of an eight-year-old. Like-
Why do elephants paint their toenails red?
So they can hide in strawberry patches.
You ever see an elephant in a strawberry patch?
Works pretty good, don't it?
(Okay, that's more like five-year-old humor, but elephant jokes are timeless)

Date: 2010-10-20 06:29 pm (UTC)I'm afraid that any hockey game that went into three periods of overtime would have me in the hospital on life support. The tension would kill me. ;-))
I have so much to do to prepare for NaNo and I just can't seem to get motivated.
Mad Men confuses me. I need either longer episodes or more episodes. Eight is *not* enough! (Actually, I don't know how many episodes are in a Mad Men season. All I know is there aren't enough.)
Dead goldfish drama and a precocious vocabulary, all in one week. LOL! Is this the same niece, or do you have more than one? Either way, that's a lot to deal with. ;-))

Date: 2010-10-21 12:26 am (UTC)Normally, I'm like that too, but it might have been the lack of people around to feed the tension that had me feeling good.
I know - I'm going into the last few days here and I haven't even named a good majority of my characters (a couple of whom are going to be fairly major).
Mad Men is confusing, but it's brilliant. And you're absolutely right, it isn't long enough. I'm just glad that Justified (my other must-watch show) will be starting up again in February so it'll cut the waiting time for Mad Men.
Yes, same niece. She's over tonight with my brother. We have buried the fish in the backyard next to her tree. And the vocabulary just teaches me that I'm still shockable, which is a good thing.
