Resolutions of a Cinematic Nature

I used to go to the movies all the time. With someone, by myself, didn't matter. Then at the end of 2004, I started dating and we went to the movies or stayed home and watched movies together for the run of the relationship. Which ended. After that, going to the movies by myself was too damned depressing and I only went when it was something really special. Since I've been back in St. Louis, I've relied on my family to go with me, but that sometimes means missing films (i.e."Che" or "I Love You Philip Morris") because they don't fit into anyone's schedule.
So, on the eve of the Academy Awards, I've decided to make a few resolutions:
1. See more films - I think I saw less than ten films in 2010.
2. See more independent & LGBT films. Provided that they aren't completely terrible.
3. Stop avoiding films that seem violent. This is something that I've been noticing lately and if I even suspect that there's violence, I won't go. That limits a lot of my moviegoing choices and is a far cry from the gal who sat through "Reservoir Dogs" twice and watches "The Godfather" every Thanksgiving
4. Go to one film festival. It's not L.A., but we do have them here.
5. Hopefully be inspired enough by what I'm seeing to go back and work on a screenplay.
The economic factor is something to be considered, but watching a DVD at home isn't the same as watching it on a big screen. I've seen five of the nominated films this year - three in the theater - "The King's Speech", "The Kids are Alright", and "Black Swan" and two on DVD - "Inception" and "The Social Network". I still want to see both "127 Hours" and "The Fighter". I have a feeling that "The King's Speech" will win, but I'm pulling for "The Social Network". Happy Oscar Weekend, everyone!
