The hunt is on.
Mar. 22nd, 2016 08:08 pmI think I've mentioned this before, but my family is going to be moving soon. My parents got a good offer for the house and my 78-year-old aunt has decided that she would rather move back to her own place than in with us. (Not sure if that's not to part with anything she's acquired in the past 78 years or if it's being a Republican surrounded by Democrats in an election year, probably a little of both). So my time in her townhouse is drawing to a close. I'm not sure how she's going to manage with the stairs, but she'll make it work.
So the 3 of us - mom, dad, and me - are looking for a place. I thought "fun", right?
So not right.
Mom's got hip issues so she can't do a lot of stairs and the "garden" apartments at the complex I'm at now were too close to being in the basement/living like mole people for her. Then we go to another place which had a ground floor unit available, but there are 2 dog parks in the place and there was a dog ready to greet my dad as we walked out of the apartment. He's not a big fan of the canines, so that entire complex was ruled out.
So yesterday, my mom comes back to the complex I'm at now so my aunt can renew her lease and now my aunt's got her convinced that townhouse living is the way to go. How the heck is that avoiding the stairs? My aunt's townhouse has 14 stairs between the living room and the bedrooms/bathroom with the shower. She can't expect that my mom's going to go downstairs and stay there for the rest of the day. Plus my dad's not real steady on his feet sometimes, so that's a worry too.
I'm glad we got the "sell" part of the move done, now we just have to move on to the "finding a place to spend the next year(s) until my aunt decides she's going to move in with us and we'll have to upgrade" part.
Thank you for listening to my long rant.
