The Request - OZ

So
vanillalime is in the midst of an OZ rewatch and she let this little comment slip after watching "The Routine" - Where is all the Dino/McManus slash?
Now, you people know I cannot leave that out there.
Going to state up front that there's no sex here, but there is enough of an excuse for the UST that vanillalime saw in "The Routine", and there's a little bit of... well, you'll see.
When it came to men, Tim McManus had a type - average height, stocky but muscular, and possessing an easy smile and a conversation style that could best be described as brash but charming. There’d been a guy like that once, still was actually, but they were too close for anything like that to ever happen.
So when the dark-haired man wandered into his temporary office, Tim thought for a moment that the gods were smiling on him. There was only one reason that the younger man had come to him. “Can I help you?” Tim asked.
“Guys say that you’re bringing in prisoners for that new experimental cell block. I want in.”
Tim raised an eyebrow. Most of the inmates who came to him danced around the point for a few minutes before making the request. He appreciated the direct approach. “We only have a few spots remaining. I was going to offer them to inmates who have an exemplary track record. I’d asked Sister Pete for recommendations of prisoners she thought would fit in well in Em City. What’s your name?”
“Dino Ortolani.”
Tim glanced down at a slip of paper on his desk. It showed the winners from last week’s Oz football pool, but there was no way that Dino could know that.
“Ortolani. No, it’s not on here.”
“You can make a change.”
“I could. But can you?”
“Can I what?”
“Can you show a capacity for change? Em City has a lot more rules than the rest of the prison. The nonsense that you’ve gotten away with in Gen Pop is going to have to end. There will also be more opportunities for you in Em City. Maybe you want to further your education, get your GED.”
“I graduated high school.”
“Would you be willing to help others graduate?”
The look on Ortolani’s face clearly said “Fuck that”. Tim shook his head. “And you’d have to get into drug counseling.”
“I sold, but never used.”
“Well, good for you,” Tim said.
“You know who I work for, right?”
“You work for the State of New York in the prison cafeteria. Any other business that you have running should have been shut down long ago. But let me guess, you’re part of Nino Schibetta’s crew.”
Ortolani nodded.
“And you think that if Nino is in the new unit, you should be in the new unit.”
“Something like that.”
“The only reason that Nino Schibetta found his way into Em City is that Leo asked me to take him in as a favor. Actually, two favors because I had to make space for that D’Angelo too. I will not be doing him a third favor.”
“It’s not a favor for Nino or for the Warden. Nino doesn’t want me there. In fact, he’s got a very specific reason for wanting me in Gen Pop.”
“And me putting you in Em City will render this reason null and void.”
“Sure.”
“I don’t think so.”
“What do you want me to do, McManus? Suck your dick?”
“You aren’t the first inmate who volunteered that today and you probably won’t be the last. We’re done.”
“Good, because that ain’t happening. Anyway, that’s not what you want,” said Ortolani.
“I’m asking you to leave. Please go or I’ll have someone escort you out.”
“You don’t want me to suck your cock.”
Tim wouldn’t have minded seeing the Italian on his knees, but he did have an experimental prison unit that was opening in two weeks and didn’t need a distraction. “That’s what I said.”
“You want to suck mine.”
Tim was rendered speechless for a moment as Ortolani’s remark hit the bulls-eye. “Excuse me?”
“You checked out my junk at least three times during our conversation.”
“How do you-? No. Get the fuck out of here, Ortolani.”
Ortolani smiled that damnable smile of his and said, “See you around, McManus,” before slipping out the door.
Tim took a deep breath. It was just a small look, barely more than a second. Maybe more than one. He shouldn’t be punished for looking, especially when nothing happened. That mouth though. God, what a turn on. This was trouble just waiting to happen.
And yet…
Leo had interfered with the population of Em City by making him take on Schibetta in the first place. There was a delicate balance that Tim was trying to cultivate and having a head of organized crime in his unit upset that balance. He’d explained as much to Leo, but was told that Schibetta was being transferred to Em City when it opened. Leo had previously promised not to get involved with the inmate selection process for Em City, so Tim figured the push had to come from Schibetta himself. If Ortolani had told the truth about Nino not wanting him there, this would be the perfect way to get back at Schibetta for his interference.
Having a little eye candy to look at during the course of a day wasn’t a bad thing either.
He added Ortolani’s name to the list of inmates for the experimental unit. If it didn’t work out, Tim could always transfer him back into Gen Pop.
Ortolani’s physicality and demeanor reminded Tim of a young Sean Murphy. It had been a while since he’d spoken with his best friend. Maybe it was time to touch base again. He could ask Sean to leave Attica and come join him at Oswald.
And if that didn’t work, maybe he could convince Sean to come out for drinks this weekend.
