Definitely skippable.

What a disappointment. I normally look forward to books in Ms. Sinclair's Masters of the Shadowlands series and have been wondering if she was going to come out with a new one. This felt like an overlong introduction to her new Sons of the Survivalist series.

Basically, the novella didn't give me the things I love in the rest of the series- mainly, a lot of BDSM strung together with a little bit of interesting plot, ties back to other characters within the series (it made mention of his security guy which was supposed to be a friend, but was someone that I'd never even heard of before in the MotS series), and partly set in the Shadowlands (Z's BDSM club).

This book has a very basic plot- Z is targeted by an ex-military guy that he psychoanalyzed and got kicked out of the military. His wife Jessica is pregnant but follows him up to the not-so-wilds of Alaska to go to a funeral for the survivalist. Three of the four sons (who aren't actually sons, but rather boys that the survivalist has adopted over the years) are introduced in the book. They are not that interesting. There are a couple of sex scenes between Z and Jessica in the book but they weren't overly interesting.

I would say that the series has run its course.

Well, DAMN. I think I mentioned with the last book that the series felt done, but that I'd hoped for a return to some of the original characters like Z and Jessica. And now it seems that I got what I wanted, and it's STILL no good? *sigh*

Jessica is my favourite, probably because I entered the world seeing it through her eyes. I relate to her the most. I'm not so sure I've liked the way her and Z's relationship evolved, though. Why does every couple end up being unable to leave the D/s aspect in the club/bedroom?

I'll probably pick this up anyway because I just can't help myself.

That does sound wrong. There's been a few instances where it crossed the line for me. The one I remember is the corset during the wedding. Like, NO, I'd like to breathe and EAT and enjoy myself, thanks Z.

Bluh. I'll let ya know what I think after I read it.
