Burn after Reading, Job Search, etc.
Sep. 16th, 2008 10:02 pmWent to see "Burn after Reading" today. It's very light and not nearly as funny as I thought it would be. High points - 1) Brad Pitt - the movie really begins and ends with him; 2) J.K. Simmons - totally steals the movie. He's only in two scenes, but he's the funniest thing in it; and 3) Tilda Swinton - just because she has very pretty hair (which I totally wish I could duplicate for myself)
Saw a preview for "Milk", the Gus Van Sant film about Harvey Milk starring Sean Penn. Two things really struck me watching it - the GI-normous writer's credit at the very end of the previews (even after Van Sant's) and the fact that I'm going to have to see it myself with a full box of Kleenex at the ready because it's going to hit every gay nerve in my body. And depending on which way Prop 8 goes, it's going to be so much more emotional. His assassination is one of those things that wasn't even close to being on my radar at the time (I think I was 8 or 9 when it happened), but the effects of both his life and death are a good measure of how far the LGBT community has come and how far it still has to go.
Whew! I didn't expect it to turn political like that.
I have to finish getting the wrinkles out of my skirt in time for my interview tomorrow with the temp place. I hate trying to iron - I wind up ironing the wrinkles in. I'm going to try steaming it. On top of that, I just realized that the shoes I bought don't fit quite as well as I thought so I might have to wear and alternate pair and then slip these on at the last minute. All that aside, I feel pretty prepared. And whatever they ask me tomorrow will further prepare me for my interview Thursday with another temp place. So it's all in the good. I filled out two more on-line applications so far this week. I still haven't heard anything about the court job. The typing test is on the 4th, so I suspect that nothing may be happening for me as far as that goes. Or else, they may just be late notifying people.
Have I mentioned that my current dentist is a bit of a space cadet? He calls today to give me an appointment (which is tomorrow at 6) but doesn't leave a number for me to call him back - he's never given me a business card or anything, so it's not something that I have on hand. So I have no way to confirm it. Normally, I'm a little sad to see the reassignment period coming around, but with this guy, it's not a bad thing. I would like to see him though because my temporary crown has already fallen out once.
The Anaheim Ducks have a countdown on their website to the start of the season. I really wish my beloved Blackhawks would do the same, but I might be caught staring at it for ridiculous lengths of time. Do I really need to mention that it's less than 72 hours until training camp starts? I didn't think so.
