After I wrote this, I watched "The Long Hot Summer" and "Cool Hand Luke". And let me just say, today was not the day to watch "Cool Hand Luke". The end broke my heart.
He was a brilliant man and left an incredible legacy.
I love Paul Newman."The Sting" is my favorite movie(in fact I'm watching it now for the millionth time),and Henry Gondorff is one of my favorite characters. It's so odd to find a genuine, down to earth person in the entertainment field today. And he definitely was those things. I saw him once when he came to speak at my college. He was so natural, funny, and very intelligent.
I can't ever watch "Cool Hand Luke". That movie makes me feel like slitting my wrists it's so depressing. Paul Newman is excellent in it,though. He was an amazing actor and person, and he will be missed. I miss him already.
The sad thing is that even though I love it, I don't own "The Sting", but any time it's on, I have to watch it all the way through to the end. It's brilliant and Paul Newman is brilliant in it.
I do enjoy "Cool Hand Luke". It's the grand-daddy of all prison movies and I don't mind the ending too much (unless the lead actor has recently died, and then it's extremely depressing).
But for pure Newman, there's nothing like "The Long, Hot Summer". He's beyond sexy in that and you can totally see how Joanne Woodward fell in love with him. "You're gonna wake up in the morning smiling." Amen.
