So, a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking about a particular line and thought that it came from one of my early screenplays. And so I went to see which one. And found out that none of my first 3 scripts are on my computer (all were in formats that don't translate), so I thought that a good busy-work project would be to type them in.
Y'all, they are pretty awful. And I say that with love. I'm trying just to type and be non-judgmental, but I keep thinking "I'd never want to see this."
To put this in perspective though, my first screenplay was written in 1989. And I've completed *counting on fingers* seven (and left dozens more stranded) since then. So, not too bad when all is said and done.
I'm going to have to jump in and do my edits on the newest one pretty soon while I still have some time.

It's 116 script pages, which as I continue typing and hacking out half the description and camera angles should probably wind up around 85.
Although... since nobody is going to see it ever as a film, I could subject y'all to it.
*watches flist run screaming away*

What's it about?
Don't say I didn't warn you
Date: 2008-10-09 05:11 am (UTC)Love, Adultery, Murder
I swear, it makes the Lifetime Movie-of-the-Week look subtle.
Basically, husband knocks up wife's BFF. Wife is cuckoo for cocopuffs because her own child died and her freakiness drove husband into BFF's arms. Husband doesn't want wife to know baby's paternity (wife knows BFF is knocked up a long time before husband). Threats ensue. BFF has baby. Husband kills BFF (fun scene involving poisoned baby food - he's seen her taste it first, so he's not out to kill the kid). Wife gets custody of baby and sends husband to jail. The end.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Are you sleepy yet?

Re: Don't say I didn't warn you
Date: 2008-10-10 02:01 am (UTC)I'd actually written the first script for a class (actually, my first 3 scripts & 1 treatment were for classes) and it was interesting to see that some of the requirements for that class - things like camera placement, type of shots being in there - because you're not supposed to write them in anymore. And, boy oh boy, did I overdirect the thing. Literally every movement is documented. Nowadays, it's "X enters the room. Dialogue. Dialogue. Dialogue. Y leaves the room." Back then it was "X enters the room, crossing over to Y who is standing by the fridge. Dialogue (close to tears). X opens the fridge and pulls out a can of beer. Dialogue(annoyed). Y grabs beer and dumps it in the sink. Dialogue(angry). X leaves." - Painful stuff.
