That was hot-disturbing,but hot! When I read femslash and The Godfather I was expecting Kate and Connie,so seeing the "sainted" Mrs. Corleone was a surprise. I will not be able to watch The Godfather the same way, again, either(it's funny you wrote this now, since AMC had a marathon of Godfather 1 and 2 all day yesterday)but I liked it!
I watched it again tonight and it was definitely more interesting with that in the back of my mind. Mama Corleone has always intrigued me - I love that moment after the baptism where she pulls Michael aside, like she knows exactly what he's going to do. And Kay has always annoyed the heck out of me, so she really needed someone strong to give her the 411 on how to be a real mob wife. I originally thought about doing something with Sonny's wife and Lucy Mancini, but if I do something for the fandom again, it'll probably be Connie and Lucy, just because Connie's relationship with Vincent in the 3rd film seems to signify a closer relationship with Lucy (not to mention the fact that Lucy is there at Connie's wedding in the first film). I also saw the possibility for a little Kay/Connie h/c after Carlo gets whacked, so there are more possibilities to play with later if I choose.
Kay kind of annoyed me as well. I couldn't stand how a woman who was so strong in the beginning turned into mush after she married Michael. I think I liked her best in the third Godfather, when it seemed liked the tables turned and Michael was kind of deferring to her instead of the other way around.
I liked Mama Corleone, and I think it's true that she did know exactly what Michael was planning on doing. Her understanding of the mob is shown even more in the second Godfather, where she starts building Vito's reputation by having people in the neighborhood start coming to him for help.
Sonny's wife and Lucy would be an interesting take on the two of them. I don't know if you read the book, but Sonny's wife is a lot different in it than she was in the movie. In the book she's thrilled that Sonny has other women because he's "too big" for her,lol and she was the stereotypical Italian matron. In the movie she minded very much, and she was anything but the stereotypical matron. Lucy was Connie's bridesmaid,so they probably do have a close relationship with each other and I could see the possibilities with the two of them,as well as Kay comforting Connie(which would also be ironic, since Michael was the one to have Carlo killed).
I look forward to reading the stories if you decide to write them!
