Went to work yesterday despite not feeling great and the 6+ inches of snow on the ground. Mentioned that I'd stay home today if I still felt that way, which is what happened. I had a fever this morning (which is something I didn't expect) and went to the doctor who diagnosed me with flu and sentenced me to 4 days of being homebound, so no work for me on Monday either.
I really hate being sick. Might take some time in the next couple of days to read the NaNo 2010 project and see if anything can be salvaged from it. On the way to Chicago, I read some of the novel I wrote in 2009 and the beginning part wasn't awful.
Off to bed. Goodnight, all.

Date: 2011-01-23 12:09 am (UTC)Funny you should be thinking about your 2010 NaNo. I took mine out to read a few days ago because I kept thinking about how much I liked my mc and wanted to work with her, and then yesterday figured out how I might handle one of the "problems".
I guess when you put that much effort into something (50K words!) you're invested. ;-)

Date: 2011-01-23 04:23 am (UTC)Glad you're still playing with your NaNo work. Mine is still sitting there - I think I'm waiting for some uninterrupted time so I can read it like a novel straight through and then edit. And, oh yeah, I'm invested. I think I'm going to give myself the next 3 months to play with it and then go into world-building for next year's effort. It's a futuristic story and since I've never done anything of the sort - other than the first "book" I wrote in 4th grade about an alien - I have to take some time and actually plan this one. Are you going to do NaNo again?
Thanks for the TLC, I need it!

Date: 2011-01-23 07:54 pm (UTC)Futuristic! That sounds fascinating, already, and it's all I know. How did your NaNo 2010 turn out? Were you happy with it? Did it go the way you'd hoped? I really liked your idea. Did you base it on a particular musical?
I am planning to do NaNo this year, too. It was an awesome experience and taught me a lot about my writing habits and style. I'm actually still pretty excited that I made the 50K and had something that didn't completely suck.
I find editing and fiddling on the computer a challenge, so I'm trying to work out in my mind if I really want to print the 200 plus pages I wrote, or work on it a "chapter" at a time. I haven't read all the way through it, yet, and to be honest I couldn't do it in one shot because I'd start fiddling with it, I know I would. That's why I like the idea of printing it and working my way through it in a more methodical manner.
I haven't really been thinking too much about what I want to tackle next time in terms of story/plot, or even idea, but I do know I want my writing time to be earlier in the day and if that means getting up an hour and a half earlier, so be it. I was getting far to wound up after writing my 2K each evening and my sleep really suffered. Not a good thing for me. (I also think that's why my story went off the rails at the end, and it did, it really, really did.)
