Well, that's done
Dec. 31st, 2006 09:34 pmI just submitted my Oz Magi story and with almost 2 1/2 hours to spare. I hope the recipient likes it and that it's not too all over the place. It wound up being long. Well, long for me, let's put it that way. But I wound up really liking it, so that's one of the two people that I have to please in order for this to be a reasonable success.
A lot of people are doing some year-in-review type of things. I've said this before and I'll say it again, the best thing that happened this year was finding this community and getting back to writing. I'm not going to be harsh with myself - I know when my heart was in an assignment and when it wasn't, but here's the good that came out of my fic in 2006, followed by what I hope for 2007.
Biggest accomplishment - my rapidly put out O'Reily miniseries "Double Negatives". It's been a while since I committed to put anything out there like this (actually pretty close to 20 years, when I did an 18-part story for my best friend), so I appreciate the feedback I received that helped me to continue.
Favorite line(s) from any of my writing - This exchange from "5 Times McManus & Murphy wind up in Bed Together":
“Still afraid of thunderstorms?” Sean asked, smiling.
“Terrified,” whispered Tim.
(And thus began my first foray into erotica) Really though, to my mind, it's still incredibly romantic.
Line that still surprises me because of the reaction
This inmate never played the Irish card, not like Ryan O’Reily, who would have phrased his proposition, “Let me blow you. For Ireland.” (from "5 Offers Sean Murphy Turned Down")
Seriously, it really didn't seem that funny when I wrote it, but it managed to save the one part of the story that never rang true, so for that I'm grateful.
Favorite story (not mine)
history_gurl's crackfic about McManus propositioning Sister Pete. It still makes me laugh.
Favorite story (mine)The "Prelude to a Kiss" drabble on
hardtime100 - it only took six months to figure out a way to get McManus and Said together, so it was ultimately satisfying when it finally happened.
Story that I'm proudest to have written - Another 5 for 6 challenge - Five Ways Peter Schibetta Dealt With His Rape - Looking at the story through Peter's eyes gave it a both a distance and an intimacy that surprised me. It also gave me one of the few moments that I absolutely hated to write, leaving him walking through that door with such hope, before smacking him back into denial again. This isn't a story that I read over and over again - I don't enjoy bringing myself down, but it does what I need it to do. And everything seems to fit together and move perfectly which is what I wish for all my stories.
Goals for 2007 writing -
I'd like to complete a screenplay again. It's been a while since I've made a valiant effort, so I think it's time to step back into the ring.
For my Ozfic - Ortilani/O'Reily (this is definitely going to happen as soon as I can get a definite spelling on Dino's last name - I think that would help). Adebisi/Said - I did make a promise to give these two some time together in the afterlife. McManus/Said-O'Reily-Murphy-etc. - I'll happily slash McManus with anyone whose initials aren't CK, which is a bit funny since those are my initials too. (oh, that reminds me, I still have to handle McManus/Beecher). And then anybody else that tickles my fancy - I'd also like to revisit Bellinger & Claire at some point (in separate fics) because those are the two women I enjoy writing about. And maybe another Omar stream-of-consciousness ficlet because I actually had more fun than I thought I'd have writing for him.
For other fandoms - Now that I have my Firefly collection ready to go, Mal/anybody can't be far behind. Originally Jayne was my favorite, but Mal has definitely earned a spot in my heart. Oz parallels for me - Jayne = O'Reily, Mal = McManus, that's just how it works. And yes Book = Hill.
And then the general resolutions, lose more weight, be open to relationship possibilities, get more sleep, don't over-commit. That's pretty much it.
Happy New Year, everyone!
