It's all so anti-climactic

So that's it. The awards are in the books. I pretty well missed on most of my predictions. Little disappointed that PTA didn't get anything, but it was the Coens' year. That's fine. They do good work, they deserve to get recognized. I thought Jon Stewart was funny, Tilda Swinton was gorgeous, and Marketa Irglova had the best speech of the night. (Although I will admit to getting a little choked up by the two ladies that won for "Freeheld" - I had no idea what that film was about and it just brought home once again the power of the medium to change minds.) And how awesome was it that the last words spoken by any of the evening's winners were Scott Rudin thanking his partner. That was pretty awesome.
I talked to my family during the commercial breaks. It was funny, the first call I got was right before it started from my brother's girlfriend. She stated that my brother was acting strange and dancing around the room and being generally giddy. I told her this was actually quite normal behavior for him during Oscar night - she missed out last year because they went to a party, so he had to appear more subdued. I had a party one year. 11 people in a room the size of a shoebox. It was fun, but too distracting. I had my ex over a couple of years ago. She just kept wondering why I had food for a small army when it was just the two of us. That wasn't a bad year though because we'd seen everything but one film, so we were pretty knowledgable going in. She didn't get the madness either. BTW, I think we were together the year the NHL was on strike, so she completely missed that side of me too.
On that note, the less said about the Blackhawks game tonight, the better.
By the way, I posted the answers to the "Guess the movie" meme. Check out the madness here. Either I like some obscure movies or I just took some quotes that wouldn't be thought of right off the bat, or maybe a little of both.
