Jul. 18th, 2008 07:34 pmFound out that the NHL is holding the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field. It's amazing - great for the city and the team and all... but attending a Cubs game in April is brutal (especially if you sit in the shade) so lower the temp another 40 (or more) degrees and factor in the windchill of at least minus 20 and that's pretty much what to expect. Just a little bit nippy. However, if I had the tickets and a way to get there, I'd do it. There are going to be a bunch of Detroit fans there though. Not sure it's much of a home-ice advantage at that.

Schedules came out and the "balanced" schedule has one major problem with it (other than the fact that my beloved Blackhawks are here in LA when I'm in St Louis) - 6 games with each of the division rivals? Come on! That's just 2 more than the rest of the teams in the conference. That's no way to build contempt. My suggestion - add 6 more games to the schedule (90 is a nice round number) and then have a lottery system to draw out which team from the other conference your team would play twice (a 15-year cycle) What they probably will wind up doing is adding 2 more teams, restructuring to a 4 division per conference setup and then redetermining the schedule from there. Either way, the schedules are out and that's a good thing.
_______
JONATHAN TOEWS WAS NAMED CAPTAIN!!!! (Yes, it does warrant the exclamation points). I'm actually thinking Stevie Y here - young guy takes on captaincy, spends the next 20 years with the team...
... lifts the Stanley Cup (visualizing Toews now, not Stevie Y, BTW). It was a good decision.
Tiny random rant from earlier in the week - getting rid of Jason Williams was not my favorite move and lately they've been making some weird choices as far as pickups go, but that's really my only complaint and time will tell as far as the new guys go. I'm really looking forward to the season (if you couldn't tell)
