My foray into Hockey RPF & some recs

I've been meaning to do this post for a while now so please bear with me...
So, I'd checked out hockey RPFs a time or two in the past and found them to be very silly (hello, they're hockey players, they don't have time to be banging each other). But back in April,
marythefan made a little post about it so I decided to check it out again.
A few observations about hockey RPF & my experience of it:
1) Jonathan Toews & Patrick Kane are the Keller & Beecher of the hockey world. They have the good majority of fics out there. I love reading about the Hawks anyway so this is a bonus for me.
2) It's nice to see that someone sees what I see in Brent Seabrook & Duncan Keith.
3) There is very little written about the Blues - sometimes TJ Oshie will appear in a Toews/Kane fic & one of the other ones involved the departed Eric Johnson, which was so repulsive to me that I couldn't even look at it.
4) I don't do AUs as a rule. This is RPF, keep it RPF (except without the wives & significant others, thank you very much). I don't want to read about hockey players as pirates or in Regency England or in high school. I will however read de-aging fic but that's just one of my things. (Side note - has there ever been a de-aging fic that happened in Oz - maybe a batch of the rapid aging drugs gone wrong? Someone should write that.)
5) MPRG is still off the table. Also, the genderswap thing - my hockey players may bang one another but they still are very much men. And anything involving Jeff Carter (with one small exception) because I want nothing to do with him at all.
6) Nicknames are okay to a certain extent. After 2000 words of nothing but Tazer & Kaner, I do begin to wonder if the writer actually knows the guys' real names.
7) How I feel about players on the ice has very little effect on how I feel about players in fic. I cannot stand Alex Burrows, but I'll read every Burrows/Kesler fic that's out there. I'll also read a bit of Briere/Giroux and I'm not a big Flyers fan. And the pairing I'll consistently read (even more than Toews/Kane) is Malkin/Crosby.
8) There are some things I don't read simply because I don't know the teams or can't visualize the players and it's hard to get some of the references, especially nicknames, when it comes to that.
Here are my go-to fics:
Never Hard to Find by missmollyetc - Evgeni Malkin/Sidney Crosby - Geno catches Sid in the act, misunderstandings ensue and every Russian in hockey steps in to help them out. I have read this more than any other hockey RPF & still love it.
My Siberia: A Russian Knitting Circle Story by impertinence - Malkin/Crosby - A good many Russians have an active interest in Geno's love life and they take part in the drama here. Basically, Sid needs help with sex and asks Geno (who's been in love with Sid for ages) to help him out. Feelings ensue. It's a very long story 53K, but well worth the reading.
Hanging with the Unloved Kids by chibiRHM - Malkin/Crosby - This time it's Sid who's feeling unrequited. It's a bit of a gay coming-of-age story with some help from Toews & Kane and Jordan Eberle/Taylor Hall (there's also a bit of Mike Richards/Jeff Carter, which normally I'd avoid like the plague, but since they're not actively involved in the story, it's not terrible). It's another long one, coming in at 47K.
i'll keep an eye on you if you keep one on me by marycontraire - Toews/Kane - Jonny takes responsibility for Patrick after Patrick has one too many drunken shenanigans. Patrick is carted off to Winnipeg for the summer and what starts small devolves some pretty intense D/s by the end of the story. It's written as a natural progression of events as Jonny tries to reconcile himself to the idea of being a Dominant. Not for those that want to steer clear of D/s and also another pretty long read.
happiness is not a fish (that you can catch) by liketheroad - Toews/Kane - Another summer in Winnipeg fic, but this one has Jonny continually declaring his love and Patrick in disbelief. Just a beautiful story, despite the fact that it has a very sad reference to the Blues getting swept from the playoffs.
Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing by shoemaster - Brent Seabrook/Duncan Keith - Just one of several "Player A is dating someone (or a group of someones) just like Player B" but neither player realizes it. And since it features Dunc & Seabs, it's all the better.
There are probably a bunch more that I could recommend, but I don't want this to run too long. And if you have anything that you feel like recommending, please feel free to mention them in comments.

ps. Hate to pimp, but if you can find some time to comment on some of my fics I'd appreciate it. Finding myself in need of validation more valuable than I love it!, or I hate it!
Go Team Canada! ;-)
