They meet in secret. It’s the nature of the work they do.
No one tells them to fight, but they can’t seem to get through a meeting without punches being thrown. It helps them let off steam, ease some of the tension that’s been building both on the job and between them. Crazy as it sounds, it builds trust. They both know that neither one of them will let it get too far. Just enough.
Enough to hurt.
Enough to bruise.
Enough to feel.
No one tells them to fuck either, but it seems a natural progression after one too many times of having their hands on one another. Red marks surge to the surface of Billy’s neck following Dignam’s trail of hard kisses down to his collarbone. Tracks marked by fingernails line Billy’s chest. A set of bruises where Dignam’s fingers have dug in appear on his thighs. As he fucks Billy hard, Dignam’s lips find his neck again, sucking a hickey in a spot that his shirt won’t cover. Billy is sure that French will make some smart-ass remark about it in the morning.
After Dignam leaves, Billy looks at himself in the mirror. He likes the marks on his body, likes that they are still tender to his touch. He can relive a moment with just a press of his fingertips. He looks like a work of art, like he’s Dignam’s work of art.
And when the bruises fade, he’ll call Dignam and they’ll create another masterpiece.
