Just a small scene between Willow & Xander set during Season Seven
Xander found Willow at Tara’s gravesite, a candle in her hand. After Willow had returned to Sunnydale, the rest of the Scoobies had taken turns patrolling this area to keep Willow from going “dark” again. The last thing anyone needed was for Willow to do a ritual to try to resurrect the dead. After what they’d done to Buffy, they swore never to do it again. So he decided to play it casual, “Whatcha doing, Will?”
“Visiting,” said Willow.
“Probably not good to be in the graveyard at night.”
“I have a stake. And Kennedy is within yelling distance.”
“Well now you have added protection.”
“Okay.”
She didn’t say anything more for a moment. Xander took a seat beside her on the grass.
“I didn’t think she still had this,” Willow said.
“Had what?”
“The candle. I gave it to her. Right after Oz left.”
“It’s a nice candle.”
“Extra flame-y. That’s what I told her. I was nervous.”
“It’s Tara. What did you have to be ner- oh!”
“Yeah. I thought we would use it for rituals and stuff, but then it disappeared. Someone brought me a box of her things and there it was. In the exact same condition it was that night.”
“Kennedy know about it?”
“She was the one who told me to come out here.”
“She’s a keeper.”
“Well, she might have thought I was going to try to resurrect Tara so we could have a magical three-way, but I told her that sort of magic was off the table.”
“Good girl.”
“If you don’t mind, Xan, I want a minute with her.”
“Sure.” Xander moved away, but still kept an eye on Willow to make sure that no bad magic was going to happen. He watched her light the candle. She said something, but it was indistinct to him.
The candle went out even though he could feel no wind and it didn’t seem as though Willow had blown it out herself. Willow let out a slight laugh, touching the grave with her fingertips.
Xander came forward again and as he did, he heard her say “Thank you.”
“Ready to go?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
