Last night's hockey was so good. I remember why I love this time of the year. I listened to two overtime games - started the Nashville game when Nashville was behind 4-2 and had 10 minutes to go in the third. I got a period and a half of OT out of that, although I really was rooting for Nashville to win. Then I got hooked into the first OT of Vancouver-Dallas and that went on forever. I can just imagine how the Dallas fans felt around 2:25AM when they lost. That'll break your heart, if your not asleep in front of the TV set at that point. They had something like 75 shots on goal so for all intents and purposes, they should have won. I'm glad Vancouver beat them though.
I'm getting back to writing a bit. I have my Oz lyrical, a bit of Firefly and I wanted to get started on some Departed fic over the weekend. Doesn't seem to be enough time.
And I just realized that I hadn't put my hour's worth of work in tonight so I'm off to do that now. Can't wait to sleep in on Saturday.

Date: 2007-04-13 11:53 pm (UTC)That's definitely a fan pitfall: living in towns with poor teams. I'm from Ohio originally, so my *team* is clearly the Blue Jackets - whom I believe Barry Melrose still makes fun of every chance he gets (what's he know, anyway?). Then I moved to Colorado a few months ago, just in time to see the Avs go ... what was it ... 15-2-2 in their last 19 games - then miss the playoffs by one point. But beat the team that cut them out of the eighth seed the last day of regular season.
Versus is bad. But sometimes I think Bill Clement would make a better NHL commissioner than Bettman. Brian Engblom was an awesome commentator when he was in Columbus in the '05-'06 season. His bit of talent is kind of lost on Versus. The Doc is likeable, except he always sounds like a professor.
NBC might be worse. One good thing? No more John Davidson!
Sorry for the hockey rant. I don't have too many friends that watch hockey!

Date: 2007-04-14 06:07 am (UTC)Gary Bettman is a little worm of a man and every year when they have the Cup presentation, I pray that the captain of the winning team will smack him in the head with it.
Brian Engblom is good. Clement gets a bit too Detroit-heavy for me at times (there are 2 teams on the ice, Bill). And as for Mr. Davidson, I am quite happy with where he is right now. The Anaheim announcers drive me up the wall at times, I like to mute them. When Tallon and Foley were working for the Hawks several years ago, they were awesome to listen to, Chicago would be losing 8-1 with 10 minutes left in the third and they'd blurt out some random nice comment about the team which always made it fun. Phenomenal.
I finally got to be in the same building as the Stanley Cup this year. It is absolutely beautiful. I was over 100 feet above it at the time (it was at ice level, I was second row from the top) but wow. It only took 20 years from the last time I went looking for it to actually see it. I still can't figure out what it was doing at the Staples Center during a game with absolutely no playoff significance and featuring two teams that had long been eliminated. Must have been traveling with someone.
So that's my rant-ish response to your rant. I don't get to talk about it a heck of a lot either so it's nice to know there are other fans out there.
