Decompression
Jun. 5th, 2007 08:18 pmWell the Ocean's Thirteen red carpet arrivals really was all that and a bag of chips. I got there at 4:45 and grabbed a spot. Already it was about 3 people deep from the barricades they put up to keep folks from jumping Brad Pitt. I could not have picked a better section though, because the cars all stopped in front of us for the stars to get out.
George Clooney is a lot thinner than I expected - I wasn't thinking "Syriana", mind you, but he always seems a little fuller in the face than he was today. Still a very handsome and gracious man though.
Finest looking man in the cast that you wouldn't necessarily think of first - Andy Garcia. I've had a bit of a crush on him since he played cousin Vincent in Godfather - Part III
Note to Casey Affleck - mohawks do not become you
I aim to one of those people who get out of a car at a premiere, and everybody just says, "oh, that's nobody". On that note - Steven Soderbergh looked good, and I was too shy to call him over (especially since nobody else was yelling "STEVEN!" I was just glad to finally see him though.
Matt Damon got out of the car and was asserting his heterosexuality right away, kissing a woman that I assumed was his wife. And he didn't work the crowd at all. (It makes me inspired to write a bit of Colin death!fic for "The Departed" community.)
Bernie Mac is awesome - had this great hat, worked the crowd, smiling the whole time.
Al Pacino looked great, didn't work the crowd, didn't have to, just waved, which was fine. He is ridiculously short. Maybe only half a head taller than Shaobo Qin.
Don Cheadle was everything I expected him to be. Classy.
Two guys that were there but for some reason or another, I missed - Eddie Izzard and Scott Caan.
I am in love with Ellen Barkin. The woman got out of her car and just walked straight over to us - most everybody else paused in the middle of the street for a photo op. She is even more beautiful in person than she is on film. Absolutely sultry, as my dad would say.
Poor Eddie Jemison - he arrived in the middle of the Brad/Angelina ruckus, so nobody acknowledged him - maybe that's how he liked it. If any of you want to laugh your butt off, see "Schizopolous", Eddie plays a character called Nameless Numberhead Man.
Carl Reiner and Elliot Gould, the two elder statesmen of the film, were there. I think Elliot's son, Jason (of "Prince of Tides" fame) was there with him.
Naturally, bringing up the rear (for the most part) were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (she's not in the movie, she was just there supporting Brad). Yes, she is quite pretty, and very gracious with the fans, who were absolutely nutty about her. Brad really is that handsome in person. He also worked the crowd a few feet behind Angelina (they needed plenty of room for individual security guards between them).
All in all it was a good experience. I probably won't do anything like that any time soon - at least, not until "Guerrila" or "Che" (whatever Steven's calling it) comes out in December. Then I might have to do it again.
