cmk418I'd have used my Blackhawks icon but I think the Costigan is more appropriate.
This game SUCKED ASS - and not in a good and fun way.
The Los Angeles Kings, the worst team in the whole NHL, scored 9 (NINE!) goals (4 on the ace goalie, and 5 on the backup).
The Blackhawks had a total of 63 penalty minutes.
The Hawks also had 2 shots for the first 15 minutes of the second period (it might have been longer, there was a little flurry at the end)
Jonathan Toews (my favorite player) was injured during the first period and was out the rest of the game (ETA - sprained ankle, in case you were curious).
Did I mention the 9 goals?
Did I mention the Hawks had 2 goals, both of which were in the first? (That must be mentioned)
Patrick Kane, pretty MIA, the whole second half.
Tuomo Ruutu, don't even get me started on him, They need to ship him back to Finland.
Basic "don'ts" that were blantantly ignored -
Don't give up a goal on the next shift after you score - hello, Ladislav Nagy
Don't give up a goal 28 seconds into a period - hello, Alexander Frolov
Don't give up a goal 16 seconds into a period (but it's nifty to see them break their previous time) - hello again, Nagy
Don't take stupid penalties - Patrick Sharp, love ya, but I'm looking at you here, Mr. Shorthand Goal leader. Seriously, what's gonna happen with you in the box?
Don't think if you've played fairly well one period, that you can take off the rest of the game - sadly, that goes for everybody, except maybe Rene Bourque and Petri Kontiola
And, for the love of God and all that is holy, don't give up 9 goals and expect to win.

3 Good Things That Came Out of Tonight
1) I went down to the ice before warmups and watched the guys come out. Very cool. I haven't done that in a very long time.
2) I met John Wiedeman, the greatest play-by-play announcer in the universe, who is also one helluva nice guy.
3) After all of my whining about the Kings play this season, they actually played very well and had it been against any other team, I would have had a whole lotta fun.
That is all. I might watch the naked Viggo kicking ass scene from "Eastern Promises" in order to wind down.
ETA: In the cold light of day, I realize that with several new additions to the team taking place of several injured players, it's hard to build chemistry. And the Kings played pretty well.
That said, fourth place still, pretty well, bites.
