Saturday night wrap-up

It's raining again. I don't think I signed on for this when I moved to SoCal - I've gotten used to about thirty minutes of rain every couple of months and that's it. This weather has been going on for the better part of the week though. I am not amused.

Finished up Season 2 of "Big Love". There was lots of Alby toward the end, and, much to my delight, an Alby-Lois scene. Bill was quite annoying, but everybody else seemed to step up and really make the season much better than the first. There will be fanfic coming shortly, especially since I've signed up on the 100_women community.

On the subject of communities, I stumbled on the queerasfolkuk community yesterday. There's a lot of Stuart/Vince fic, which makes me very happy. (For those who have only seen the American series, it translates into Brian/Michael - only better). I should watch that series again - it's such fun.

I felt like I hadn't been able to do anything this week at work, but yesterday I definitely earned my money (still didn't get the mounds of paperwork down, but I managed to keep one of our biggest clients happy). Maybe we'll actually get a thank you when the boss comes back from vacation. (I'm not really holding my breath for that one!)

Think I'll work on cleaning the apartment tomorrow (it needs it) and then doing a little bit of writing.

I think the one thing that I love about "Queer as Folk" UK was that none of the characters were as whiny as their American counterparts. The series was a lot shorter than the American version (only about 7 hours for two seasons) which meant that there wasn't the character "growth" that the US series had, so Stuart stayed Stuart and Vince accepted him for all his faults without trying to change him.

I lamented the shortness of the US version, so two seasons would have killed me.Especially only 7 hours!
I liked the growth of the characters,since it made the story more interesting as it went on. I see what you mean about the two years vs.five. You can have people behaving and being the same way for a short series. In a longer one it starts to get old. I was getting tired of Brian's one millionth trip to the back room after awhile, and Michael had to grow up and build a life without being attached to Brian. And vice versa-in a different way,of course.
In the US series Michael blindly defends Brian most of the time. Until the end. But as judgmental as he could be, Brian could be as well. He was scathing in his attitudes about people who chose a different life than his-whether or not they were judgmental of his. His remarks about "Stepford fags" and similar ones annoyed me. And I seriously wanted Ben to punch him when he was mocking their marriage and said those who got married or were monogamous were "imitation homosexuals". Like there was one way to be gay and that was his.
I have a thing about men (straight or gay) trying to justify infidelity by saying "we're men". Like the old boys will be boys excuse. As if women weren't sexual and couldn't possibly understand.
