Let the healing begin...
Feb. 23rd, 2008 08:23 pmSo I went to the hockey game today...
On the first day of the year, I witnessed an act of devastation so unbelievable, it can only be mentioned by directing the reader to this post.
Revisting the scene of the incident with many of the same players today was remarkably different.
Yes, my beloved Blackhawks were in town.
Yes, they showed up to play (with the exception of 11 crazy, nail-biting minutes in the third).
And yes, they emerged victorious.
Good things -
1) Jonathan Toews - he of the weak ankles, got through the game with no injuries and managed to score a goal and an assist. Undoubtedly my player of the game.
2) Brent Seabrook going after Dustin Brown immediately after Brown charged Toews. He got stuck with an instigation and a 10 minute misconduct, but that was old-school hockey.
3) Did I mention that the Hawks won?
4) Jason Williams is BACK! And he scored a goal as well. I'm praying he stays healthy for the game against St. Louis at the end of March.
5) The line of Patrick Sharp, Toews, and Williams. Possibly destined to become my favorite line in Blackhawks history (surpassing Secord, Savard, and Larmer). And seriously, if I wtore RPS, this would definitely have 3-some possibilities. There was a lot of fodder for slashfic during this game.
6. I won't be too disappointed that the Kings got a point out of it. (Since they are my local team and they aren't any competition for the playoffs).
7. Or that they lost in a potentially heartbreaking manner (see above referenced post).
The ending of the game was ridiculous. My beloved Blackhawks were up 5-1 until basically 9 minutes in to the third. Then it was 5-2, 5-3, the Kings pulled their goalie with a little less than 3 minutes to go - 5-4, the Kings took a timeout, came back and at 19:45 with F-ING FIFTEEN SECONDS TO GO, 5-5.
Did you hear the screams? That was me.
Buzzer. Overtime. Head in hands for the teeny tiny timeout.
Then dear, sweet, wonderful (etc.) Patrick Sharp put one in at 1:48 of the OT.
It took the walk to the Blue line to get my heart rate at an acceptable pace.
These guys are seriously going to make me crazy by the end of the year.
After the game, I took the train down to Hollywood/Highland. Checked out the prep for tomorrow's activities. It's been raining off and on here, so there are a lot of canopies up and the great big giant Oscar statuettes outside are covered in plastic - it's really silly looking, actually. Inside it's fairly neat and I went past where all the camera crews were setting up for the red-carpet arrivals. It was kinda funny because they had people with signs around their necks portraying the various celebs (I didn't buy the African-American lady as Viggo Mortensen though). But I walked down the steps from the Kodak a flight and then walked back up, like I was doing the "arrivals" thing. Kinda neat. Amazingly enough I got pretty much the same response as I anticipate I'd get if I made that walk for real. How come nobody ever stops the writers (unless they're directors) to ask what they're wearing? BTW, I think Diablo Cody may be an exception to that rule this year.
