Maybe they're intimidated by the quality of the source material.
I can see that definitely with "The Sopranos", but part of that is also because I think that there's a lot of fandom that's very tuned into slash fiction and while that show is full of men, it's nobody that you'd necessarily want to slash.
The thing about "Mad Men", especially the first season was that it was so well-written, but there was nothing there that really sparked my imagination and jumped up and down and screamed "YOU MUST WRITE ME". When I saw Season Two's "The New Girl" on DVD, I knew I had to write about that flashback scene. And the first episode of season three has just been full of writing fodder.
