Potentially epic writing

Had an idea for a canon-divergent OZ fic this morning but I think that it may start me down a path of no return. May take some notes and then write it for next quarter's long prompt. Horribly OOC but it could be a lot of fun.

Date: 2021-01-19 05:36 pm (UTC)I'm holding back from writing an Oz fic (it's not an AU, though, any more than any Ryan/Miguel is anyway) that I just know is going to be A Long Involved Thing, because I'm unsure whether I want to get into it.

Date: 2021-01-20 05:54 pm (UTC)I worry a bit because I have a long involved project that was abandoned ages ago and it serves as a cautionary tale. I still think about finishing it sometimes but I haven't yet.

Date: 2021-01-27 11:40 pm (UTC)I've don't have anything that long or involved that I don't have a good grasp on since I've come back (I have wips, but I have a clear idea of their structure at least), but I remember back in the day I hit a wall with my big 100k fic and thought I'd never finish it. (Luckily, I was able to, but there was a point I even considered handing it off.)
You could keep this in the drawer, playing with it and feeling it out, until you're more sure of it. That way you can explore the interesting idea, maybe without feeling too bad if it turns out to be too much to wrangle, since it's only you who sees it unfinished.
Sometimes fic doesn't work out, no matter how much we want it to, so don't beat yourself up about that other project. Just the fact that you tried it matters, imho.
