Checking In

Been a while since I've done one of these so popping in to say hi and tell you all how I've been doing.
With the Coronavirus, it's been weird. (Understatement of the year, I know) I've seen family (outside of my parents) only four times since the whole thing started- we used to get together with them every other week. I've seen friends just about as often- met up with several folks from my choir last week- we had a gathering outside one of our member's homes in order to do a video shoot, and got together with my two besties from high school the weekend before that. I've been to work every day- we were going even when the State had a bit of a shutdown- it's finally trying to get busy there. I have Zoom church, Zoom fitness, Zoom choir meetings, and the occasional Zoom family chat. I haven't been into a restaurant for a sit-down dinner and I'm really starting to miss libraries and bookstores. I'm really missing the hockey arena though or just the concept of being in an ice rink for more than a minute or two.
Speaking of, they're supposed to start training camp next Monday, but a few of our players were idiots and decided to spend some time in a bar and they've come down with the virus. I'm a little bit miffed about that. Am I the only one reading about diminished lung capacity? Grr. Hopefully that's the end of that nonsense for a while.
I've been writing a bit. I still have quite a bit to do on my second draft edit that I've been working on. I got a new computer which I like, but I wish it had a CD/DVD drive like my last one. Still getting used to some of the new software- I am divorcing myself from MS Office for the most part and doing most of my writing on Open Office and Scrivener.
Going to see if I can get my mom into OZ tonight. It might not be her thing, but considering she watched "Game of Thrones" with some of the craziness that went on there, it's not too much of a stretch. So I'll be off to watch "The Routine" for the hundredth or so time tonight- I'll try to keep from quoting the lines.
Saw "Hamilton" last weekend. I know the soundtrack but it was the first time I was able to see it performed. It was pretty wonderful, but I'm sure the theatrical experience would be all the more powerful.
Hope you all are well. Take care of yourselves, my friends.

Date: 2020-07-08 08:48 pm (UTC)Oh no! Sounds about right. Athletes tend to be a bit hardheaded at best. We have a new AHL team now (the Silver Knights) and their arena will be literally minutes from my house. My older girl is pretty excited. It's going to be interesting and hopefully I can get her to a few games because the VGK games are too expensive. :(
Hooray for writing! Good luck with your edits as well. Look online for a portable CD drive. My in-laws bought me a pretty inexpensive one a few years ago. It can be rather frustrating to not have a CD drive.
My older girl and I watched Hamilton over the weekend as well. I knew it'd be good, but I wasn't prepared for what I watched. We both really enjoyed it though.
Anyway - happy Wednesday and I hope the rest of your week is great!

Date: 2020-07-09 03:30 am (UTC)I'm so excited for you that the Silver Knights are so close. Minor league hockey is great and more affordable than the NHL (plus you'll get to see the baby Knights as they develop which is fun). I'm still hoping to get out to Vegas as soon as this crud is over and Knights game is definitely on the agenda. Side note: it seems like we'll be getting over 12 hours of hockey once the playoffs get rolling- not sure I'm ready for that. I may have to declare a writing hiatus in August.
It took two days of near silence, but our manager finally figured out the phone issue that had been plaguing us, so today I was fielding calls like crazy. It was pretty nice. (Not sure I'll be feeling like that in another week or two, but it's better than twiddling my thumbs for the better part of 8 hours.)
Happy Wednesday! It's all downhill from here...

Date: 2020-07-09 04:14 pm (UTC)Yes! Growing up, my dad was a huge baseball fan. He'd take me to the Stars games (now the 51's) and I'd eventually see them playing for the Padres and it was always so cool. So, the opportunity to watch the Slivers become Gold is exciting. Oooh, I hope you do! My girl and I had so much fun when we went. Hahaha - hey, priorities, right? :D
Ugh, I don't mind slow days, but ones where literally NOTHING is happening are worse than the ones where you're so busy you can't think straight. Hoping that things level out and you can get back to normal soon.
Woot! And now it's Friday eve. LOL!
