I just got back from the polls. In a way, it's nice to be off of work today because it was pretty slow when I got there (around noon). I expect the lines were pretty bad this morning and they probably will be again tonight. I wasn't at my usual polling place, so they must have set up a bunch more for the anticipated turnout.

I did double-check my ballot for the two things that I was there to vote for (the presidential race, naturally) and No for the anti-marriage initiative. I think everything else wound up being in the right place as well, but those are the two I wanted to make sure counted.

Guess I'll be sitting in front of the television tonight watching the map turn blue (it'll be like 1980 in reverse - wild).

I'm relatively happy that Obama was elected. It's weird though watching those people on tv talking about the advances we've made in civil rights and that how all Americans should realize that everybody is equal (or something to that effect).

And yet...

Arizona passed a ban on gay marriage.
Arkansas banned gay couples from adopting children
Florida passed a ban on gay marriage.

And so far, with 22% of the precincts reporting,
the amendment to ban gay marriage in California is currently at 54% for, 46% against. (I'm holding out a little hope that this will reverse itself)

My point - we've still got a long way to go, people.

ETA - 11:00 PST - 36% reporting - 53% for the ban; 47% against.
